We can see how Art and Space overlap in the beauty that
abounds both in the heavens and on earth. Watch this video to see scientific images from earth that look like art and are art from space.
The Powers of Ten:
Lymphocyte by MRK shows 10 to the power of -5. He uses digital and film
techniques to journey from the physical universe into a unique, imagined
universe of graphic abstractions. We get an artistic sense of the scale and
perspective of the life we each live and the universe in which we reside. Atoms
are so small in comparison to our bodies, just like our home plant is so small
relative to the universe. Watch the video!

Carl Sagan’s “Pale Blue Dot” really puts things into
perspective. When looking through a particular vantage point, zoomed out by
powers of 10, we are like a small spec of dust in our vast universe; but zoomed
in, our bodies consist of a complex makeup of atoms.

The
Netherlands-based nonprofit Mars One is planning to fly 24 astronauts to Mars,
the Red Planet, in 2023. According to their mission, ‘exploring the solar
system as a united humanity will bring us all closer together. Mars is the
stepping-stone of the human race on its voyage into the universe. Human
settlement on Mars will aid our understanding of the origins of the solar
system, the origins of life and our place in the universe. As with the Apollo
Moon landings, a human mission to Mars will inspire generations to believe that
all things are possible, anything can be achieved.’ The trip to mars will take
about seven month, but all of the necessary technology to land humans on mars
exists, and robots will establish the settler’s habitats beforehand.

A reality TV show
will be created to help fund the project, which shows how much art, science,
technology, and space have awed the public over time. Over 100,00 people now are willing to
spend the rest of their lives on mars, while others are willing to fund it. The
media, creativity, and art are the driving forces behind this modern technology and engineering. The Jetsons' lifestyle may not be too unrealistic after all.
